Atmospheric deposition of mercury in the Nordic countries at different scenarios of reduced antropogenic emissions in Europe

A model evaluation of the effects of reducing emissions of mercury in Europe has been made. Wet deposition fluxes of mercury at 6 Nordic sites have been calculated at different emission scenarios. The model simulations of transboundary transport was performed using the EMEP-Hg model (Petersen et al., 1995) and assumed reductions of mercury emissions in Europe. The effects of reductions of 50 and 75% of the 1987/88 emissions of mercury have been evaluated. The EMEP-Hg model has also been used for investigating the effect of removing gaseous oxidised forms of mercury from the emissions
