Two new articles: Measuring tool for degradation of pesticides and guidance for exposure framework

The Mistra SafeChem scientist Peter Fantke, DTU, and his research group have contributed to two newly published articles in very different areas.

The first one has the title Considering degradation kinetics of pesticides in plant uptake models: Proof of concept for potato and is published in Pest Management Science.

The degradation of chemicals in the environment is a main driving parameter to model their fate and exposure. Since measured data on degradation in plants and food crops are rare, the authors propose a modelling approach to estimate chemical degradation in plants, using potatoes as an example crop. The model can consider crop growth dynamics and regional differences in environmental conditions, and with that is a suitable tool to improve input data to chemical fate, exposure and impact models.

The second scientific article, which is published in Environmental International, has the title Advancing exposure data analytics and repositories as part of the European Exposure Science Strategy 2020−2030.

High-quality exposure data are critical for different decision contexts, including environmental and human health monitoring, and chemicals risk assessment and management. Strategic guidance for an integrated European exposure data production and management framework is proposed for use in science and policy, building on current and future data analysis and digitalization trends. The proposed guidance is part of the European Exposure Science Strategy 2020-2030.
