Analysis of micro-debris

IVL analyzes microplastics and micro-debris in different types of water, sediment and biota. The particles are rarely visible to the naked eye but can be harmful because they can both contain and carry heavy metals and other harmful substances to aquatic animals.

Microplastic is included in the category of micro-debris, which consists of small particles under 5 mm of different materials. In addition to plastic, it can be textile fibers, rubber particles, asphalt, combustion particles and other waste.

We perform the analyzes with self-developed optimized equipment for density separation of micro-debris from different types of sediment. In addition, we have methods for extracting micro-debris from animals that have been developed in European collaborations for optimization of micro-debris analyzes.

Many of our measurement and analysis methods are accredited by Swedac External link, opens in new window. according to SS-EN ISO / IEC 17025: 2018. For other methods, we work based on corresponding quality routines.

We help you with:

  • Analysis of micro-debris in water, sediment and biota
  • Quantification and classification of micro-debris using optical methods
  • FTIR and SEM analyzes to identify polymer and texture determination
  • Development and adaptation of analysis methods for different matrices.
